New Contemporaries 2020

Jung Yun Roh, Reading School of Art PhD student, has been selected for Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2020.

My work explores the realm of social identities as both an immigrant manual worker and an artist. These are very different, perhaps incompatible roles, but for me they are a reality. I want to question society’s acceptance of multiple identities. In my moving image work, my daily drawings – made during my walks through the city and that record my labour as an artist – are juxtaposed with the narrative recounting my labour working in the kitchen at a Prêt A Manger.
