On Thursday 10 July 2020, our graduating MA students launched “MAtters, UOR MA Degree Showcase 2020.” This virtual show emerges from a collective desire to highlight their experiences as a group before and during lockdown.
“MAtters” is the culmination of three MA co-curated exhibitions over the 2019/2020 academic year. The second exhibition which took place in February 2020, “Material Matters (M2),” formed as the artists experimented with and exploited the gallery’s architecture, space and material makeup. Before this, in December 2019, the group staged “Dark Matters,” an intimate, immersive experience that makes the viewer feel close to the artworks due to a dimmed lighting aesthetic.
“MAtters” showcases artworks developed and presented by the University of Reading MA Fine Art and MA Creative Enterprises’s Graduate Class of 2020. Their artworks span many different disciplines including painting, textiles, sculpture, digital and performance. As a cohort, they are interested in creating collaborative events by co-curating and experimenting with space.
