As we move forward in time, the entropy of any system will always increase.

‘Entropy’ is an exhibition curated by Open Collective: eleven emerging artists who met at university with a desire to further their artistic practices and develop an engaged artistic community. The collective is interested in exploring the concept of entropy, the world’s natural tendency for chaos. In Greek, entropy describes ‘a transformation’. This has inspired us to transform the chaos of the never-ending expansion of the 21st Century into meaningful experiences.

We aim to disperse our chaos through the local community, with a variety of workshops relating to our own practices. Some of these include: abstract form generation, creating an alter ego/alternate reality, painting natural forms, marionette making, themed life drawing, paper cutting & collage, and weaving using found materials.

All workshops will be posted on Eventbrite. search ‘Open Collective’ in Reading and our listings should appear as we post them !

OPEN COLLECTIVE

Open Collective is a group of silly art-making weirdos who support each other in their practices and hold space for one another. Our values are rooted in diversity and facilitating spaces where we can make art without being discriminated against based on ethnicity, neurodivergence, queerness and/or disability. As early career artists we are taking it upon ourselves to share skills and learn how to create something accessible and without hierarchy. We began as a small group of artists and intend on expanding into a larger, fluid community. The collective is open to all who share its values.

To be open is to be free.
